The 1 FREE Application I Can’t Live Without For MAKING Things

Today, there is an app, website, or software platform for just about anything (including finding someone to walk your dog).

But when it comes to MAKING things, there is 1 application I can’t live without:

Fusion 360

And here’s why:

  • Modeling lets me see a project outside my head and adjust the look.

  • Fusion models start with 2D “sketches” that are fully defined based on other pieces in the project.

  • The 2D sketches and 3D models are parametric (run based on named parameters), which, when combined with the sketches, allow dimension changes to impact the entire model accurately.

  • Individual models can be inserted into other models, which lets me see a piece in a room at scale.

  • Fusion has beautiful textures and renders that give a good representation of how different materials and lighting can impact a model and room.

  • With the model complete, I can move the components into a cut list to take to the workshop, along with diagrams with dimensions for assembly.

  • CAD Models can be exported as SVGs for 3D Printing

If you want to create your own designs, go into your workshop with a good plan, or generate less scrap material, I can’t recommend using this app enough.
