Star Wars > Star Trek (At Least For Makers)

Before you pick up your nerd pitchforks, hear me out.

Star Trek has its merits, and I enjoy watching the shows and movies. However, Star Wars has always held a special place in my heart, as it was the first sci-fi movie I saw and loved. There's just something that drew me into the movies as a kid that has stuck with me.

That has only intensified as a Maker, but I figured out why.

Star Wars Thrives In Its Non-Perfectness

Star Wars feels like it could be real.

It's not just that the characters are flawed; Star Trek has flawed characters, too. There is a grime about the Rebellion and Resistance that shows people don't need things to be fancy to make a difference. It's about people using what they can get their hands on and doing the best they can.

Star Wars wouldn't be right if it were perfect and clean.

So How Does This Relate To Makers

Your projects do not have to be perfect.

I used to want everything to line up perfectly and shine. However, due to skill, tools, or lack of knowledge, I never created a perfect project. Now, I realize that there is a freedom to embracing the imperfections in a project that adds to the uniqueness I shoot for.

I've even gone as far as intentionally weathering projects to make them look more worn than they are.

Forget perfection. Take the path of the Jedi and embrace the imperfections as part of the journey.
