The 1 Superpower Making Things Gives You (But It's A Duel-Edged Sword)
After I had been Making things for about a year, I realized it was an unexpected superpower.
When I started, I thought Making would be a hobby and nothing more. The amazing part is that the superpower had developed without me realizing it. The way I thought and looked at everything completely changed.
So what happened?
The Maker Superpower: Believing You Can Make Anything
Before I started Making things, I would by default look at a store or Amazon for a solution.
After a project or two, I started trying to find a way I could build something to solve the problem, not buy it. I started finding reasons to buy a tool to fix something simple, but that would unlock that tool for future projects as well. A few years in, even going around Galaxy's Edge at Disney World shifted my perspective on what I could incorporate into creative projects.
However, with great power comes great downsides as well.
The Maker Kryptonite: Believing You Can Make Anything
Yes, you read that correctly; the same superpower is also the kryptonite.
When you believe you can build anything, you try to build everything. My wife is a saint for how much she has put up with my ever-growing project list and the shuffling priorities. Some projects have stayed on the list for years because I haven't come up with "the perfect idea" for them yet.
Just because you can make something does not mean you have to (or should).
